ABOUT THE PROJECT

Overview

I worked with Wayfair, a global e-commerce giant handling millions of shipments. At that scale, even small discrepancies in shipping invoices or supplier agreements turn into massive losses. The challenge wasn't generating revenue—it was plugging the "leaky bucket" of operational costs. I engineered data pipelines to audit their logistics network automatically.

The Challenge

The company worked with multiple shipping carriers and thousands of suppliers. Manually verifying every shipping invoice against the negotiated rate cards was impossible. Consequently, the company was unknowingly overpaying for shipping and absorbing costs from supplier errors. They needed a way to audit millions of rows of transaction data against complex contract logic without slowing down operations.

The Solution

We moved beyond standard reporting and executed a Forensic Operational Audit:

  • Data Reconciliation (SQL + Python): We ingested and cross-referenced millions of transaction rows against vendor contracts, creating a "Single Truth" dataset for financial accuracy.
  • Leakage Identification ($4.6M): Utilizing algorithmic anomaly detection, we pinpointed $4.6 million in operational inefficiencies—ranging from redundant vendor payments to shipping logic errors.
  • Strategic Recovery ($2M): We didn't just find problems; we validated $2 million in immediate cost-saving opportunities that could be executed within Q4.
  • Executive Governance: Delivered a board-level "Risk & Opportunity" framework, translating complex data discrepancies into a clear roadmap for capital reallocation.
